House of Jorhat
At the invitation of Most Rev. Thomas Menamparampil SDB, the then bishop of Dibrugarh, we opened a house at Jorhat, in the state of Assam. This was our first house in North East India. Fr DevassyAthalathil and Fr Alfonso Elengikal went there and finalized the agreement with the bishop. Then, on 5 September 1991, Br Jesudass and Fr Joe Narivelil were sent there; they formally opened the community in 1992. Within a year, with the assistance of MISSIO, the community pressed into action the second Pauline mobile Book-Centre which was flagged off by MotilalVora, the then Governor of Assam. This mobile unit, with a large variety of books, has already covered several times the entire North East India consisting of seven states.
Our house, named PoharKutir (House of Light) was blessed on 17 July 1992. The community runs a book centre in the house and has published a number of books in the Assamese language. The main activity of the community is distribution of books in all states of North East India. By the initiative of Br Jesudas, several CDs were published with short films on catechetical and social themes, scripted and produced by him.
