Fr Dominic D’Silva, the Director of SPICE, Mumbai, was on an official visit to Deakin University, Australia, from 12th to 16th December 2016. He visited two campuses, Burwood and Geelong Waurn Ponds, of the University at Melbourne. The purpose of the visit was to reinforce the relationship between SPICE and Deakin and to work for better international collaboration. Professor Matthew Allen, the Head of School of Communication and Creative Arts, Deakin University, said: “We are very happy to associate with SPICE to offer Master of Communication Degree and we look forward to establishing many more similar programmes in the fields of media and communication”. The Faculty members of the same school promised all possible collaboration to strengthen and to work together for a successful execution of the existing Deakin-programme at SPICE. During his stay at the university, Fr. Dominic discussed different plans which include students’ study tour to Australian campus, International workshops, lectures and seminars to be offered by Deakin at SPICE Mumbai and Bengaluru, exchange of course contents and faculty, implementation of modules like Communication Concepts, Communication Research and Online Learning as part of the Post Graduate Programme. Simon Wilmot, the Associate Head of School of Communication and Creative Arts, has offered Fr D’Silva to be on the defence panel of Master’s programme at the University. On becoming the premier media institute in the country, it is crucial for SPICE to have international associations and global standard and approach to its curriculum. As a whole, Fr. Dominic’s Australian visit further opened the doors for us to become ‘Teachers of Teachers’ fulfilling Bl. Alberione’s vision and to interpret Pauline charism through its educative dimension. Congrats to Fr. Dominic for furthering the collaboration of SPICE with the international university in Australia and for taking the initiatives to make SPICE an educational institute of international standard.
