Pauline Family Get-Together – August 15, 2025

The Pauline Family in Mumbai-Pune area from six communities came together at St Psuls Campus, Bandra, on the evening of 15 August 2025. It was a day of double celebration — the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady and the Independence Day of our nation. The gathering began at 3:00 PM and concluded joyfully with a sumptuous dinner at 8:30 PM.

The event commenced with a fun-filled icebreaker games to get to know one another which was followed a high tea. Thereafter, all gathered in front of the grotto for a prayer service, invoking God’s blessings on the Pauline Family. This was followed by a symposium on Pauline Spirituality, where six members from the three Pauline congregations in India presented reflections on their shared charism and mission.

The symposium was structured around three themes:

  1. Personal Encounter and Interior Transformation

Br. Arockiam (Society of St. Paul) and Sr. Priyanka Munis (Pious Disciples of the Divine Master)  shared their heartfelt experiences of how Pauline spirituality has led them into a deeper relationship with Jesus the Divine Master.

They spoke about the transforming power of the Word of God, which enlightens and guides daily decisions.

Drawing inspiration from Alberione’s writings, they highlighted the stages of purification, illumination, and configuration with Christ, rooted in the Eucharist and the Cross.

They emphasized that Pauline spirituality is a path of ongoing transformation, calling each member to live fully conformed to Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

  1. Pauline Charism

Sr. Antonette Jesumani FSP and Sr. Bibona PDDM reflected on the importance of the Pauline charism of Blessed James Alberione. Sr. Antonette explained the different aspects of the charism, which is a gift from God given to Blessed Alberione. For him, the Pauline charism is the integration of community life, apostolate, and spirituality. Pauline spirituality centers on Jesus the Master—Way, Truth, and Life—and finds its expression in our mission. It consists of prayer, community life, and mission, all united as one whole. Alberione never spoke of mission in isolation from life and spirituality; for him, his life in God was manifested in the apostolate, and the apostolate, in turn, enriched his spiritual and community life.

Mary is the Queen of Apostles because she presented Jesus to the world. She is “Queen” because she responded to her vocation in an excellent way. Those who are called to give Jesus to the world must model themselves on Mary. This is the heart of Alberione’s thought: from here flows his devotion to Mary and his conviction that the apostolate is essentially about giving Jesus to the world. Our charism is to live Christ as St. Paul lived and understood Him, and as Mary, Queen of Apostles, lived and understood Him—and to give Christ to the world as Mary once gave Jesus.

Sr. Bibona PDDM highlighted that the Pauline charism is a gift from God to our Founder, Blessed James Alberione, for the good of the Church. What makes it unique is its wholeness and integration: living Christ fully and communicating Him to the world in the spirit of St. Paul. Blessed Alberione envisioned the “Total Christ,” embracing all people, in all times, in all places, and using every good means for the salvation of humanity. As his spiritual children, we are called to continue this mission in the world today.

There are seven key aspects of the charism, beginning with our commitment to full conformity with the mind, will, heart, and strength of Christ—so deeply united to Him that we can truly say with St. Paul: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”

  1. Personal journey of joyfully living the Pauline Apostolate, despite internal and external challenges.

The third set of Paulines, Sr. Rosely Varkey FSP and Fr. Joe Eruppakatt SSP, shared personal experiences of their apostolic activities, showing how obedience to the will of God empowered them from the beginning of their formation till today, despite the challenges, and raised them to a higher level of joyful dedication to Pauline mission. They also spoke of the challenges and opportunities of living the Pauline mission in modern contexts such as digital media, technological updating, and information overload. They stressed the responsibility of the Pauline Family to proclaim Christ in contemporary culture with creativity and fidelity to Alberione’s vision.

After the spiritual enrichment of the symposium, the programme moved into a lighter and joyful segment with a variety of entertaining games that encouraged active participation from members of all three congregations. Laughter, cheer, and family spirit filled the hall as brothers and sisters came together not just as collaborators in mission, but as one  Family of Paulines in joy and fellowship.

A highlight of the evening was the eagerly awaited announcement of the winners of Pauline Anthem Competition. The competition witnessed enthusiastic and creative performances from several Paulines from the three branches accross the country. It reflected both artistic expression and deep love for the Pauline charism. Sr. Salome FSP emerged the winner for script writing, while Sr. Caroline FSP was awarded for setting the script to melodious music.

The prizes were jointly presented by Fr. Joby Mathew, Provincial Superior of the Society of St. Paul and Sr. Metilla D'Souza, Provincial Superior of the Daughters of St. Paul. Adding to the joy on the occasion, Sr. Caroline FSP also trained the audience for singing the newly composed anthem, which was received with great enthusiasm and participation.

The presence of the Provincial Superiors and their words of encouragement inspired everyone to carry forward the Pauline spirit with renewed energy.

The sharing of experiences, combined with moments of creativity, fellowship, and celebration, was marked by depth, authenticity, and joy, leaving the participants enriched and motivated to continue their journey of living and giving Jesus Master to the world.

The day concluded with a festive dinner, strengthening the bonds of communion among the branches of the Pauline Family. It was truly a moment of grace, fraternity, and renewed commitment to the Pauline mission in India.
