December 14, 2024: The 25th anniversary of Ecclesia in Asia, the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope John Paul II, was commemorated with an International Symposium on 13th and 14th December 2024 at the St. John’s Hospital Campus, Bengaluru. Organized in a hybrid mode, the event brought together participants both in-person and online via Zoom to reflect on the theme: Towards a Fully Synodal and Missionary Church in Asia: Re-Reading Ecclesia in Asia for the Jubilee Year. The symposium served as a platform for dialogue and discernment, revisiting the exhortation’s vision for a vibrant and missionary Church in Asia. Keynote speakers and panellists included clergy, theologians, and lay leaders, emphasizing the Church’s commitment to synodality, inclusivity, and renewed evangelization in the Asian context. Among the participants were Fr. Prithvi Raj, Fr. Shaiju Joseph, and Fr. Dominic D’Silva, members of the Society of St. Paul, Bengaluru. They contributed to discussions on how Ecclesia in Asia continues to shape the Church's mission and pastoral initiatives in the region. The symposium highlighted the Church’s journey over the past 25 years while looking ahead with renewed zeal. With its hybrid format, the event enabled a wider audience to engage in the discussions, underscoring the Church’s commitment to fostering community and dialogue across physical and virtual spaces. As the Jubilee Year celebrations continue, this symposium is expected to inspire new pathways for the Church in Asia to grow as a beacon of hope, mission, and unity in the years to come.
