The Convocation Day for the fifty-seven students of SPICE, Mumbai, was organized on Friday, 28th April 2017 at Alberione Hall in St Pauls Media Complex, Mumbai. These students who successfully completed their one-year diploma belonged to the disciples of Journalism, Publish Relations and Advertising. The programme began with the solemn entry of the graduating students to the hall followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. After the prayer dance by Ms Debjani Ghosh, Fr (Dr) Dominic, the Director of SPICE delivered the welcome address where he emphasized the need to continue the research that the students have begun and to be effective communicators. In his short message, Fr. Devasia, the Director General of Apostolate, offered a few tips to the students to shine in their professional career. The tips were on learning, focus, attitude, humility and values. Ms Carol Andrade, the Dean of Studies in SPICE highlighted the importance of excelling in their professions. The convocation programme then went on with the presentation of the ‘show case’ prepared by the outgoing students. The ‘show case’ was a documentary prepared on different relevant themes to reveal that the studies done is SPICE were not merely theory but theory with ample field work which make the students prepared to face the world without inhibitions and hesitations. Mr Rajiv Podar, MD of Podar Enterprize, was the Guest of Honour for the day. In his address, Mr Rajiv highlighted some of the qualities necessary for men and women of communication in the world today. His talk was followed by, perhaps, the most important and memorable part of the day: the awarding of the diploma to the outgoing students by the dignitaries. After the distribution of the certificates, Mr Royston Braganza, the CEO, Grameen Capital India, addressed the crowd. Royston, the versatile speaker, offered a few tips using the letters S-P-I-C-E—Simple (keeping things simple), Persistence, Innovation, Counter Cultural and Empathetic. Fr. Renold Pascal, the Assistant Director, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme ended with the National Anthem. We hope and pray that the outgoing students may pursue their professional career and be beacons of change to transform the world into a better place.
