Every year on 1st May, the world comes together to celebrate International Workers' Day, also known as International Labour Day.
It's a day dedicated to honouring the contributions of working people in every industry and sector. It's not just about celebrating their hard work, but also empowering them to be aware of their rights. In his encyclical Laborem Exercens, Pope John Paul II stated: “the Church considers it her task always to call attention to the dignity and rights of those who work, to condemn situations in which that dignity and those rights are violated, and to help to guide [social] changes so as to ensure authentic progress by man and society”.
In the campus the day was celebrated in a ‘family spirit’. The entire staff, numbering about 125, gathered in our community dining hall. The event consisted in sharing Workers’ Day message highlighting the dignity and nobility of human labour after the example of St Joseph, the Worker, and the rights of workers for a just wage and decent living and this was followed by a variety of games and a very delicious homemade lunch for all. Our domestic staff under the leadership of Mr Laxman Kharad did a fantastic job in providing a sumptuous meal which everyone appreciated.
