On August 6, 2017; nestled in the lush green cocoon of nature, SPICE Bengaluru campus buzzed with excitement, anticipation for the final execution of their days of toiling and preparation for the Inauguration of Academic Year 2017-18.
The dignitaries of the day were welcomed into ST PAULS auditorium in an innovative way with the call of “Lights, Camera & SPICE Action 2017-18.” Ms Anita H S, SPICE faculty with pleasant words welcomed K M Chaitanya, Film Fare Winning Director, Fr Varghese Gnalian, Provisional Elect, Fr TC Joseph, Fr Prithvi Raj Philip, Director, SPICE Bengaluru, Fr T C Joseph, a Board Member, ST PAULS COLLEGE, Fr Sebastian Thomas, Administrator, Parents and students.
Fr Jobin, Master of Aspirants conducted the prayer service seeking blessings of the Almighty God for the success of Academic Year 2017-18. Ms Anita H S Introduced K M Chaitanya to the gathering highlighting on his various achievements and awards received as dramatist, documentary film maker and as popular film maker in the Sandalwood. It was followed by a video was presented to the audience about the humble beginning of the Society of St Paul and its vision and mission.
Fr. Varghese Gnalian in his address emphasized on the importance of protecting liberal and secular values. He reiterated the mission of the institution to focus on developing professionals who will dare to be creative, and uphold values. The Chief Guest Mr. K M Chaitanya shared with the gathering a conversation he had with the legendary thespian, Mr Naseeruddin Shah, where the latter had stated that filmmakers are the most overvalued and overpaid people. But looking at the contributions of the Society of St Paul to the society he admitted that he feels that the observation of Mr Shah was true. He went on to focus on reality of the society we are living in and reminded responsibilities of the media students to work for the development of the society. Fr Prithvi Raj Philip echoed that Bl James Alberione dedicated passionate attention for sixty years to carry out the mass media apostolate. Drawing inspiration form Marvel of the Media Apostle, he offered the wards DPHS (Discipline, Passion, Humility & Simplicity) as 4 letters success mantra for Second Batch of SPICE Bengaluru students.
Mr. K M Chaitanya presented Vishnu Vijay as the SPICE Bengaluru Student of the Year Awardfor the year 2016-17 for his excellent all-round performance during the last Academic Year. Vishnu accepted the award with his proud parents. The event came to an end with the national anthem.
